Now in its third year, Star Wars Battlefront 2 finally returns to the original trilogy, and while DICE has been steadily updating the game with a number of maps, modes, and characters taken from the prequels and sequels, this month it's the Rebel Age's turn.
First, both Rebel and Imperial forces will have new reinforcements in the form of scrappy Ewok hunters and duel-wielding ISB agents.
The Ewoks are a particularly nice treat, as guerrilla teddy bears are usually limited to Ewok Hunt mode. The little guy uses a bow and normally chooses his target and shoots like Rand's dead-eye ability, but when he zooms in, he has manual control, increasing range and damage. Hunters can also use their horns to buff themselves, throw small fire sprites to burn enemies, or detect an enemy's weak spot.
ISB agents are the empire's first reinforcements capable of duelling. They are also good at getting into and out of fights thanks to their Assault Training ability, which grants them increased sprint speed and damage reduction, and they can use their Imperial Intel ability to spot enemies. He can also discover enemies by using the "Imperial Intel" ability.
If you want to get away from the massive battles where you are lucky to survive for a few minutes, Age of Rebellion also offers enhanced co-op, with seven additional locations drawn from the original trilogy, including Jabba's Palace, Kessel Run, and Death Star II. The game has also been updated with seven additional locations drawn from the original trilogy, including Jabba's Palace, Kessel Run and Death Star II. With the launch of the update, DICE will also begin adding capital ships to the list of co-op maps, starting with the Republic's Venator and the Separatist Dreadnought. Meanwhile, MC85 Star Cruisers and Resurgent-class Stardestroyers will appear in Heroes Vs. Villains.
Each of the four classes will get a new blaster that will be compatible across eras, and some heroes and reinforcements will receive updates. Leia will receive some improved abilities, card adjustments, and blaster modifications, while Chewbacca's bowcaster should be more effective against troopers and miss shots should decrease. The Wookiee Warrior, Imperial Rocket Trooper, and Rocket Jumper will receive no gameplay changes, but will have new looks.
The update will also tweak the UI and bots, and add a number of smaller changes. All of these can be seen in the patch notes.
I've only had a chance to play the game a couple of times since the BB update, so I have a lot to catch up on. But DICE has done such a great job of fixing and expanding Battlefront 2 since it was embroiled in the microtransaction controversy after its release that I can't help but go out the door and shoot stormtroopers.
Star Wars Battlefront 2's Age of Rebellion update will launch tomorrow, February 26.
