Despite Coronavirus, E3 2020 Goes "Full Speed"

The GDC was postponed last week amid growing concerns about the coronavirus Covid-19. This is one of many events that have been postponed or canceled in the past month; ESA, the organizer of E3, is also closely monitoring the situation, but at this point the event is proceeding as planned.

E3 2020 does not take place until June, but with the continuing spread of respiratory viruses, a large international event that draws tens of thousands of people flying in from around the world seems to be an increasingly unattractive prospect.

ESA told Vice Games, "Everyone is keeping a close eye on the situation. Our first priority is the health, wellness and safety of all exhibitors and participants, so we will remain vigilant." Based on what we know at this point, we are moving full speed ahead with our plans for E3 2020, and our exhibitor and registration sales are on track for an exciting show in June."

Organizers remain optimistic, but ultimately it is up to developers, publishers, and attendees; before the GDC was officially put on the back burner, many cancellations had already occurred. Microsoft, EA, Epic Games, Facebook, and many others cancelled their participation, deciding the fate of the event.

An incomplete list of participating companies was posted in February, so watch for updates in the coming months.
