Death Stranding" and "Control" Lead 2020 BAFTA Nominations

The list of nominees for the 2020 BAFTA Game Awards, which opens next month, has been announced. Many of these games appeared on similar lists last year, so there are few surprises; you'll likely see "Control," "Death Stranding," and "Disco Elysium.

Game of the Year is in the running for the BAFTA Best Game Award along with Control, Luigi's Mansion 3, Outer Wilds, Sekiro, and Untitled Goose Game. Death Stranding" was left out of this category, but was ranked in a number of other categories. Kojima Productions has released more than 20 games since 2005, but "Death Stranding" is the first since leaving Konami.

Both "Control" and "Death Stranding" are nominated in 11 categories, showing up in most categories, while "Disco Elysium" is nominated in 7 categories. Many of our favorites are also nominated, including "Untitled Goose Game," "Outer Wilds," and "Sekiro."

Aside from debut title "Death Stranding," the only other unexpected nominee was "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" in the "Narrative" category. The film is ranked in the "Narrative" category. It's a super-straightforward take on the Star Wars story in the least adventurous way possible. I have a feeling it will be somewhere between "Disco Elysium" and "Control".

Also in the Evolving Games category, several older games are once again given awards. I would definitely replace "Destiny 2" and "Sea of Thieves". Because only one of these two has evolved into something good. Despite the expensive cash store, I am increasingly convinced that other live service games need to follow Grinding Gear's example.

The full list of nominees is here.

The BAFTA Game Awards will take place on April 2.
