Rumors Faster Gaming Laptops with GeForce RTX Super GPUs

Most graphics cards based on Nvidia's Turing GPU architecture have already received a "Super" refresh, though only on desktops. What about laptop GPUs, which have been rumored to be getting the same "Super" treatment for Nvidia's mobile lineup, but new leaked information may reveal what performance gains are on the horizon.

The folks at PCGamesN claim to have obtained an internal performance slide that compares the relative performance of the two upcoming mobile GPUs, the GeForce RTX 2080 Super and 2070 Super, to the existing non-Super versions. If the slides are authentic, Nvidia is claiming an approximate 50% improvement over the regular RTX 2070.

The slides appear legitimate, but cannot be confirmed at this time. The numbers are plausible based on what we have seen in the desktop arena with Nvidia's super refresh. There is nothing that really raises eyebrows.

The slides are based on average performance in "Control," "Wolfenstein: Youngblood," and "Deliver Us The Moon," all running at 1080p at maximum settings. It also shows that the platforms tested consisted of Intel 10th generation Comet Lake-H processors and 16 GB of RAM.

Intel has yet to announce its Comet Lake-H lineup, but it has also been the subject of many leaks. However, the lower-power Comet Lake-U and Comet Lake-Y processors are already available in laptops, so that's not a red herring either.

It will be interesting to see what develops in mobile graphics this year, as Comet Lake-H laptops combined with RTXGPUs will face an onslaught of laptops built around AMD's Ryzen 4000 mobile series. The game is just beginning.
