With just over a week until the Steam version of "Borderlands 3" launches, publisher 2K Games has released a FAQ with all the information you need about "Borderlands 3," including how cross-play works, how to transfer saves, and when to unlock the Steam version.

The Steam and Epic Games Store versions of "Borderlands 3" (after the update) will have a screen to enable/disable cross-play for the PC version. Either way, you will also be prompted to select a crossplay display name to use for the new "Shift Matchmaking" feature. Both the display name and crossplay selection can be changed whenever desired from the options menu. Cross-play with the console version is not supported "at this time."

If you are playing on one platform and want to switch to the other, you can move your saved games, but you must do so manually. Detailed instructions will be posted by the time the Steam version is released, but 2K warns that there is a possibility of losing save files. In-game email exchanges will be limited to players on the same platform at the time of release, but a patch is planned for the near future to allow cross-platform email.

Transferring over achievements seems to be more tricky. When transferring an existing Epic save file to your Steam account, please note that you will not immediately receive any Steam Achievements earned with that save file. "Certain Steam Achievements may be earned on that character by re-fulfilling the necessary requirements, but at this time we cannot guarantee that Steam will register these Achievements consistently. All Steam Achievements can be earned with a newly created character on Steam."

Preload of "Borderlands 3" on Steam will begin in the early afternoon (PT) on March 10; although not in the FAQ, 2K says it will unlock on March 13 at 7am PDT/10am EDT/2pm GMT.

Update: 2K has clarified that the Steam FAQ is incorrect: Borderlands will unlock on Steam at 7am PDT, not PST, which is 2pm GMT. Updated unlock times.
