Iam8bit, which was supposed to "rock" E3, is no longer a project.

In January, we learned that production company iam8bit was one of several companies working with the Entertainment Software Association to "re-energize" E3 2020 and "shake things up." That's not true anymore.

"It's with mixed feelings that @iam8bit, known for its video game collectibles, record soundtracks, art exhibits and events, has decided to step down as creative director of what was supposed to be an evolving #E320 floor experience." He tweeted.

The dissolution appears to be unrelated to concerns that E3 may be canceled due to precautions related to the spread of the coronavirus; ESA said this week that plans for E3 are still moving forward, but the organization continues to monitor the situation.

The wording of the tweets (mainly "what was planned") suggests that whatever iam8bit had planned for E3 2020 is not what ESA is moving forward with. iam8bit would not give details of its resignation, saying only that it has "confidence in all involved" and "good luck. We wish them the best."

A statement sent by the ESA to PC Gamer also did not help clarify the situation.

"We can confirm that iam8bit is no longer part of the interagency group working on E3 2020. We appreciate iam8bit's passion for the gaming industry and their contribution to our vision for this year's E3." With an innovative and experienced team, including Endeavor's creative agency 160over90, event innovator Mat+Lo, and longtime E3 partners GES, Dolaher Events, and Double Forte, we are committed to providing fans, media, and industry with working together to create an exciting and authentic experience."

He wrote.

In somewhat related news, Game Awards producer and host Geoff Keighley recently announced that he will not be attending E3 this year. He told GamesIndustry.biz last month, "Given what has been communicated publicly about the plans for E3 2020, I would not feel comfortable attending this show at this time."

Keighley has hosted panels at the E3 Coliseum for the past several years.

The two events are not related, and Keighley seems to think that E3 should take a broad new direction, and he did not quit in the middle of the project, but taken together, they throw up some concerns about E3 2020. We will keep you posted as more details become available.
