Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Battle Royale Mode "Warzone" Leaks Again

The Battle Royale mode for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" was leaked again today. Not only were many details confirmed, but the name of the mode, Warzone, was also revealed.

YouTuber Chaos uploaded an unpublished video after being invited by Infinity Ward to try it out. We were expecting an announcement soon, but it seems there is more to it than that. It has now been removed, but the details have been preserved for posterity thanks to Reddit.

According to the Chaos video, Warzone is free to play in base, can be played even if you don't own Modern Warfare, and can go between consoles and PC thanks to cross-platform progression and cross-play. Matches will pit players against up to 150 other players on a massive hybrid map that includes pieces of existing maps such as Scrapyard and Terminal, but also allows players to explore many new areas.

All standard battle royale features will return, such as solo, duo, squad, jumping out of planes, and escaping from clouds of venom, but you will be able to board a variety of vehicles, including helicopters, ATVs, and trucks, and kill streaks that give you air strikes and other abilities be available for purchase.

In Warzone, dying is not the end. Not only can you purchase respawn tokens, but you can also return to the fight through the camps. You are captured by the enemy, not killed. You gain your freedom by winning 1vs1 fights to entertain your captors and everyone else in the queue. While in the queue, you can watch the fight, support your squad mates, or throw rocks at anyone you don't like.

So there are some added complications, but in other respects Infinity Ward seems to have simplified this mode. Loot is scattered all over the ground, ARPG-style, so you don't leave yourself vulnerable by searching through your inventory. Attachments cannot be looted, but they do appear in supply drops.

In addition to the mode shown in the video, there is another mode called Plunder. No video was seen, but more details will be announced soon.

The video is no longer available, but it doesn't look like it will be long before you can check out the free-to-play mode for yourself.
