The port of Doom 64 will include a new chapter.

"Doom 64" was created in 1997 exclusively for the Nintendo 64 console. Twenty-three years later, this often overlooked entry in the "Doom" series has finally been ported not only to the current generation of consoles, but also to the PC.

And now, in addition to porting the original "Doom 64," the team at Nightdive Studios has added a new chapter to "Doom."

In an interview with USgamer, senior developer James Haley described this new chapter as one for the "persistent player."

Set after the main campaign of Doom 64 has concluded, the new chapter will feature Doom Guy and his main antagonist, Mother Demon's sister, in A confrontation is depicted. In the style of the Wicked Witch of the West, she is trying to avenge the (perhaps beloved) punishment the protagonist has inflicted on her brother, but the punishment she chooses is an unusual one: banishing Doomguy from Hell. The new chapter will depict Doomguy's attempts to return to Hell, both to take revenge and to return to his beloved life of demon-slaying.

The "bit of lore" that Haley promises as a reward for completing the chapter is vague, but it may signify a long-awaited canonical connection between the original 90s game and the 2016 reboot series. Or perhaps Doomguy's beloved pet Daisy the rabbit, whose death was the genesis of the classic Doom plot, will finally return.

Doom 64 will be released on March 20 to coincide with the release of Doom Eternal. It will be included as a pre-order bonus with the game and may be purchased separately for $5/£4.
