Philips launches 100Hz 34-inch HDR monitor at an amazing price.

It is a pity that Philips does not pay more attention to the gaming monitor segment. That's because the company's new 34-inch curved monitor, the 364P1CRH, offers several attractive features for the price.

The 364P1CRH is aimed primarily at productivity-oriented users, with amenities such as a built-in USB-C docking station and a pop-up webcam with Windows Hello support. However, gaming is not completely overlooked.

"Gaming shouldn't be a choice between choppy gameplay and broken frames. With Adaptive Sync Technology, smooth quick refresh, and ultra-fast response times, you get smooth, artifact-free performance at virtually any frame rate," Phillips said.

Thus, at a native resolution of 3440x1440, the gray-to-gray response time is 4ms and the refresh rate is 100Hz.

Overall, the display has a good balance of features and specifications. For gaming, it is nice to see a refresh rate above 60 Hz; it is not as good as 144 Hz or 240 Hz displays, but 100 Hz is interesting enough.

Also worth mentioning is the wide color gamut. This is generally an advantage of IPS and VA screens over less expensive TN displays. We won't know how well these perform until we see them in person, but based on the numbers, color accuracy seems to be a high point (although color gamut and accuracy do not necessarily go hand in hand).

According to Philips, the 346P1CRH will be available in the UK this month for £499. No word on when it will be available or how much it will cost in the U.S. Looking at Newegg, the majority of the 34-inch 1440p monitors are selling for $600 or more, with some models selling for $700 or more.

There are exceptions: Nixeus sells a model with a 144 Hz refresh rate for $549.99 (down from $599.99); there are several other cheaper models, although none go above 60 Hz; and Nixeus has a model with a 144 Hz refresh rate for $399.99 (down from $399.99).
