System Shock remake developer working on "Blade Runner" remaster

Nightdive Studios, developers of the System Shock remake, are polishing up another classic game this year: Westwood's Blade Runner. It's more of a remaster than a remake, but it's still nice to see this sci-fi thriller get some love and attention.

Until GOG acquired the rights and began selling a new digital version, "Blade Runner" was not easy to find or run on a modern PC. That version remained largely untouched, but the new Enhanced Edition is loaded with modern additions.

Character models and animations have been updated, and cutscenes are upscaled thanks to machine learning algorithms.

"Because 'Blade Runner' is still a stunning feat on every level, we are using KEX to upgrade the graphics and politely enhance the gaming experience in ways never seen before, but preserving Westwood's vision and gameplay in all its glory We're preserving the vision and gameplay of Westwood in all its glory," said Steven Kick, CEO of Night Dive. Steven Kick, CEO of Night Dive, said, "We're excited about the benefits of playing our games on the latest hardware. While we enjoy the benefits of playing games on the latest hardware, the look and feel of the game should be as glorious as we remember it, not as it used to be."

It helps that "Blade Runner" still looks incredibly impressive despite the years that have passed. The pre-rendered backgrounds may not look as sharp as they did in 1997, but they haven't lost any of their style. Even with the new edition, it's still well worth playing the original.

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition will be released on Steam in 2020, but until then, check out our video on why you should play Blade Runner.
