Them's Fightin' Herds, a My Little Pony-inspired fighter, launches April 2.

The "Brony" craze seems like a long time ago now. The "Bronies" craze was from a different era, one in which one had to worry about people liking children's cartoons a little too much. Them's Fightin' Herds, a project that started as a "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" fan game, will finally be released from Early Access next month. Until we see what it has to offer, it may seem somewhat lacking; Them's Fightin' Herds expects to include top-down dungeon crawler elements, mini-games, and even branching dialogue options, rather than a series of battles connected by cutscenes.

Them's Fightin' Herds began as Fighting is Magic, a fan-made fighting game based on Hasbro's My Little Pony series. After Hasbro's infamous shutdown, the studio that was to become Mane6 left and returned with Them's Fightin' Herds.

Retaining the cute art style of Friendship is Magic, but with all-new characters designed by Friendship is Magic creator Lauren Faust, Them's Fightin' Herds is the first of the "Skullgirls" follows the 2D, combo-heavy fighting style typical of games like "Them's Fightin' Herds," but it looks very different because it features four-legged characters. Not only ponies, but coats, sheep, and dragons are playable as well.

Even if you were actively opposed to Brownies and My Little Ponies back in the day, Them's Fightin' Herds is worth checking out when it comes out on April 2. If nothing else, the brilliant pun in the name is worth it.
