Meatball RPG "Geneforge" Returns Remastered and Packed with New Content

Geneforge, a science fantasy RPG released in 2001, will be remastered in 2021 following a successful Kickstarter campaign by creators Spiderweb Software Geneforge is a unique game and was a science-fantasy indie RPG adventure before indies were reliably successful on distribution platforms like Steam and GOG. I played it on a CD I burned in 2002. (Sorry, Geneforge developers.) In Geneforge, the player becomes a Shaper, literally a wizard with the ability to create new life forms and use twisted monsters in turn-based combat. The remastered version improves the interface, graphics, and game design, but does not significantly change the game story. Originally planned to add a few new characters, storylines, and abilities, the successful Kickstarter will add even more new characters.

The remastered version of Geneforge 1 - Mutagen, which reached its $75,000 stretch goal, will add an all-new multi-zone region with new characters, quests and loot. Spiderweb Software's games have grown significantly since 2001, but they do not and will not use high-end modern graphics. However, its mechanical and complex storyline will appeal to the most ardent RPG fans. So this upgrade will be a boon for those who like these old games but find the interface, which was already difficult to use in 2001, almost unbearable. The game's development status can be found on the Kickstarter page and on Spiderweb Software's website. For more background on the original game, check out the shockingly detailed Wikipedia page.
