Steam continues to break records, this time reaching 22 million users

Up 10% from last weekend's record high, Steam reached a new peak of 22 million concurrent users, a record of 22,678,529, as millions of people are socially distanced, isolated, and incarcerated under the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, In the midst of isolation, this is yet another record for Steam in recent weeks. As with previous spikes, this one occurred around 15:00 GMT. This is during the peak gaming hours of mid-morning in the U.S., afternoon in the U.K., and evening in China.

The number of concurrent in-game users at the time was not a record, but approached over 7 million. The top games during peak hours were Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, Steam's primary free games. This was followed by the popular series Football Manager 2020, which is free until March 25. (3]

It is not clear if Steam will reach a definitive peak during this period or if it will start suffering from network problems. The next few weeks will most likely see lockdowns around the world, and record-breaking will no doubt continue. The more interesting question is when the end will come.
