Despite the cancellation of F1 races this year due to a disease outbreak, F1 has decided to bring the Grand Prix series online F1 intends to bring all cancelled GPs online, starting with today's virtual Grand Prix Bahrain. Today's Grand Prix Bahrain was 25% the length of F1 2019 on PC - 14 laps. The driver lineup for the race was a mix of real-life drivers and racing game streamers, plus chat favorite Lando Norris, who was both. Also present was Paul Challoner, better known as ReDeYe, who if you follow esports closely, you've probably seen on stage. The race can be seen below in about an hour and 40 minutes.
An interesting post-match interview with Formula 2 racer Guanyu Zhou is available here. Guanyu Zhou said, "It's a simulator to make it as close to reality as possible. As close to reality as it was, it was also more than funny. Zhou "suited up" and competed as if he were in a real race. Johnny Herbert skipped the first turn. Broadbent knocked out Lando Norris in the tender ram to take the finishing position. It's also fun to watch veteran racers gather dust because they've barely played the game: ...... Especially to watch them improve steadily and rapidly.
The next game in the F1 series is in two weeks, with the virtual Grand Prix of Melbourne making up for last week's race cancellation. If the schedule stays the same, F1 esports coverage can be checked on the official twitch.tv/formula1 channel or the F1 website.
