Unbreakable Knife Returns in "Resident Evil 3" Remake

The zombies of the Resident Evil 2 remake were tough customers, their thick skulls absorbing clips and their skin capable of breaking knives. Thankfully, knife science has come a long way since 2019, and the knives in the Resident Evil 3 remake are made of harder stuff.

The original game didn't have this problem, but for the remake, Capcom decided to make it a defensive weapon, used to stop Leon and Claire from falling prey to zombies. It could still be used offensively, but it was really only for emergencies.

For Resident Evil 3, Capcom changed the knife again, telling Game Informer magazine that it would return the knife to its status as an indestructible backup weapon and, if used correctly, the only weapon that could be used. Perhaps not for the faint of heart, it would be possible to go out with only a knife.

"In 'Resident Evil 3,' we made the knife inexhaustible. 'We are dealing with survival horror, so everything is expendable. You run out of bullets. We run out of herbs. All the available items run out. So if you run out of everything, what do you have? A knife. The director always wanted to make sure there was at least a knife that could be relied upon. It's something you can always count on."

A demo of "Resident Evil 3 Remake" is available on Steam, allowing players to play some of the early parts of the game ahead of its April 3 release.
