HP is working with Valve and Microsoft on a "next generation" VR headset.

This year is shaping up to be an interesting one for the VR world. Half-Life: Alyx has launched, and HP has teased its next-generation headset.

Details are scarce, but HP has revealed that it is working with Valve and Microsoft on what HP says is "a more immersive, comfortable, and compatible experience than the previous generation" and promises to be "the new standard in VR."

HP shared a partial image of the headset shown above, which appears to be an improved version of the Reverb, a mixed reality headset HP announced last year with twice the resolution of the Vive Pro. It is also listed on Steam, but no information beyond HP's website.

There aren't many lines to read between, but one would expect this next-generation headset to be more consumer-focused than Reverb; with Reverb, HP was primarily targeting commercial customers. With Microsoft and, more importantly, Valve's involvement in this mystery headset, it seems, if I may speculate, that HP is trying to create a stir, especially in VR gaming.

Simply put, we'll have to wait and see how it stacks up against the best VR headsets currently available.
