General
No other VR games planned by Valve are currently in development.

Those with a good memory may remember that Gabe Newell mentioned three VR games from Valve in 2017. That was long before Half-Life: Alyx was announced, and a lot can change in three years. At this time, and right after the release of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve is not developing a VR game: right after the release of Alyx, the company has two other VR games in development.

Speaking to Upload VR, Valve designer Greg Coomer said that most of Valve's VR development resources have moved on to Half-Life: Alyx late in its development cycle. "At this point, we don't have three other titles in development." However, there is nothing new or newsworthy about the future that can be said to be "what should happen when Alyx is released." (Meaning we shouldn't have any specific expectations right now.)

In 2017, Newell would only say that any of these three games are in active development. It's entirely possible that the other two were left on the cutting room floor, since he said at the time that "we think we can make three big [virtual reality] games." Nevertheless, according to Upload VR, another Valve developer, Jason Mitchell, said he has worked on a Valve VR project that was neither "The Lab" nor "Half-Life": it was Alyx.

Overall, Valve remains typically vague about the future of VR. Whether future Half-Life games will return to VR depends on how Alyx is received. Whatever the critical reception, it has been well received: in his review, Chris writes, "Revisiting City 17 in VR is a thrill in Half-Life: Alyx."
