PowerColor has added a three-month extension to its expired warranty.

General
PowerColor has added a three-month extension to its expired warranty.

Following MSI's lead, PowerColor is also extending its product warranties that expire between now and June, offering users an extended warranty of three months. This grace period is intended to make it easier for people to socially distance themselves from the product without having to go to a shipping center to return defective products before the warranty period expires.

"With the global crisis of Covid-19, we understand that this is a critical time for everyone. This is affecting all aspects of our lives and we understand that during these times, more health-related matters are a priority. That's why we are adding an additional three-month extension for customers whose warranties expire between March and June 2020," PowerColor announced on its website.

"PowerColor remains committed to delivering superior products and service to our customers and will continue to do so during these challenging times," it added.

PowerColor's extension appears to be a bit more flexible than the one MSI announced two weeks ago; MSI announced a two-month warranty extension for desktop and all-in-one computers, motherboards, PC cabinets and cases, and monitors, but not for graphics However, it did not extend the warranty on graphics cards. Users will also need to enroll in MSI's rewards program.

In contrast, PowerColor does not appear to exclude or put a caveat on its products; PowerColor sells primarily graphics cards, but also offers external GPU enclosures and sound cards.

This is a thoughtful gesture, but at the same time, users who find their graphics cards defective may not be able to afford to wait to initiate an RMA. It really depends on whether they can get by with integrated graphics, a backup GPU, or a secondary PC (if one of those is an option).
