Ryan Reynolds in talks to star in live-action "Dragon's Lair" movie on Netflix

Released in 1983, "The Lair of the Dragon" was a technological marvel. Instead of using the graphics that were common at the time, it featured full-fledged animation by former Disney animator Don Bluth, made possible by high-capacity laserdisc storage. It was, frankly, a shit-show, but the stunning visuals transformed it into a five-star quarter-eater and led to the release of home versions on a variety of platforms. The original is on Steam, and GOG picked up the Dragon's Lair trilogy in 2018.

In 2015, Bruce and Gary Goldman launched a $550,000 Kickstarter project to help fund the production of Dragon's Lair: The Movie. The project failed, and they cancelled it, heading to Indiegogo for $250,000, slightly more than what was promised on Kickstarter.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has been picked up by Netflix and Ryan Reynolds is in negotiations to play the role of Dragon's Lair hero Dirk the Daring. Bruce, Goldman, and John Pomeroy, another animator who left Disney to work with Bruce, will serve as producers.Netflix confirmed the report on Twitter:

Dragon's Lair has little plot: Princess Daphne is a dragon Thingy has kidnapped her and is holding her captive in the fortress of the evil wizard Mordok, and the daring, somewhat dim-witted knight Dirk storms the castle to rescue her. The game itself is basically a series of fast-paced, quick-time events that don't add much more depth than that. This means that the scriptwriters can do whatever they want, but we'll have to wait and see if that's actually a good thing.

Hopefully it will be better than Michael Bay's cinematic disaster "6 Underground," the last collaboration between Reynolds and Netflix.
