Cross-play accident between the PC version of "Star Wars: Jedi Academy" and the console version of "Star Wars: Jedi Academy" was a disaster.

Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy was first released in 2003, and its innovative and still unique lightsaber dueling mechanics have attracted enthusiastic players and kept them playing the game for nearly 17 years. Developer Aspire Media re-released Jedi Academy on PS4 and Nintendo Switch this week. Moreover, the general multiplayer mode is fully functional.

In addition, PC and console cross-play can occur incidentally. Some of those players simply want to play old games with new friends. Other players are fighting as unfairly as possible. The contrast between the keyboard and mouse advantage and over a decade of gameplay expertise against Jedi Academy's console controls is not beautiful. In fact, it's a kind of butchery. To give a rather mild example:

Some console players are understandably outraged and are demanding that the IP of the console server be hidden. Other PC players are condemning the toxic players who are hacking into the console servers and are instead welcoming new players into the JKA community; the reaction to Aspyr's latest tweet is a good example of the social media chaos going on around this game right now.

Update: Aspyr said in an emailed statement that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

"We are so thrilled and grateful for the support from the fan community for Star Wars: Jedi Knights, which launched last week on PS4 and Nintendo Switch: Jedi Academy. We are very happy to be able to do this." We are aware of the current bug that allows for multiplayer crossplay between PC and consoles. As with all the games we are working on, we are committed to providing a great gaming experience for our players. A remedy for this loophole is being worked on and will be available soon." [Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is available for purchase on PC through Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, Origin, and possibly many other places.

CORRECTION: The original version of this article represented PC players on the console servers as cheating, rather than simply having access to features such as chat and team health that are not available in the console reprint of Jedi Academy. This has been corrected.
