Despite Earthquake, "Scum" Developers Continue to Update Game

The prison riot survival game Scum was released in Early Access in 2018 and has since been regularly updated by Croatian development studio Gamepires. The latest update was made in response to an earthquake in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, where their offices are located, which was apparently the worst earthquake the city has suffered in the past 140 years.

"We at Gamepires are fortunately all safe," they said in their latest development blog. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the earthquake."

They are probably working from home right now, as Zagreb is currently sealed off by the coronavirus. Photos of the office show that many monitors, bookshelves, and potted plants have been knocked down, but the worst seems to have been spared and Scum updates continue.

The latest update includes a bomb disarming mini-game, UI markers for placed traps (visible in focus mode), craftable sewing kits, bolts, nails, and money item stacking, damage to inventory containers (can be moved to items inside containers), various audio tweaks, added quality of life, and more. My favorite patch note is "Fixed a bug that caused strings to stretch like demons when pulling compound bows.

Despite this, Gamepires even had time to air a second Scumcast.

A guide to getting started with Scum is here.
