"Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord," which released its Early Access version yesterday, looks to be the biggest launch of the year on Steam with a peak concurrent player count of 178,562.

To put this in perspective, "Doom: Eternal" currently boasts the highest player count ever since its March 20 launch at 104,891. As of this writing, Bannerlord sits at #4 on Steam's top 10 list, ahead of perennial favorites such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Team Fortress 2.

Mount & Blade 2 was first announced in 2012, and the developer blog has been regularly updated since 2017. The eight-year road to Early Access is no mean feat, and TaleWorlds broke the good news on Twitter.
