The Elder Scrolls Online, Greymoor Expanded Prologue Now Free to Play for One Week

The release of "Greymoor," the latest expansion for "The Elder Scrolls Online," may still be more than a month away, but there is hope for those who can't wait that long. Developer ZeniMax Online has announced that the prologue chapter is now available for free to anyone who already owns the base ESO game.

Additionally, the developer announced a Play For Free event starting April 1. The event includes free access to both the base game and the prologue chapter of the Greymoor expansion, presumably in hopes of tempting many new players to ESO who are currently stuck at home for the time being, just in time for Greymoor's launch.

The Greymoor expansion is part of the Dark Heart of Skyrim storyline, a multi-part adventure that takes place throughout the year. In the two quests that make up the prologue, players team up with returning NPC Lilith Titanborn to investigate threats against the Skald King Jorn and other leaders of Skyrim.

The free event will run on all ESO-available platforms, but with different terms and conditions; PC and Mac players should note that the Steam event is shorter and will end on April 6. (Console players can enjoy the freebies until April 13.) But to make up for it, the full release of The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled for May 18: the PC and Mac versions will be released on May 18, more than two weeks before the June 2 release of the console version.
