I got the new dual screen Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo.

Remember the dual-screen Zenbook Pro Duo unveiled at Computex 2019? This new Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is a gaming laptop that follows the same multi-monitor design but focuses on gaming and streaming.

The Zephyrus announced today features dual screens, of course. Users can choose between a 4K or 300 Hz, 3 ms 1080p panel for the topmost display, giving them the flexibility to choose whether they want to use this gaming laptop primarily for gaming or content creation. It also features the largest bottom bezel since the ThinkPad days of the 90s, and for good reason.

That's why it sits just below the hinge, above the keyboard and touchpad, and above the second monitor. The laptop is configured to tilt up to 13° when opened, slightly modifying the Zenbook Pro Duo's design, but the effect is nearly identical.

Known as the ScreenPad Plus, this bonus panel supports a stylus touchscreen at 14.1 inches with a resolution of 3840 x 1100; a horizontal resolution of 4K would have been unexpected, and the screen is also available with a 4K resolution.

This high pixel count is to ensure clarity for apps and windows that are dragged down to the secondary monitor, and you are free to choose what you want to occupy the extra space. Some apps work better than others, and some games, such as Dying Light 2, are optimized to display more information on ScreenPad Plus.

But you're also more than welcome to use it for Discord, Spotify, OBS, and cat pictures, and its collaboration with Overwolf also makes it easy to view real-time statistics and numbers about the game at hand without having to pull away from the hot seat.

The ScreenPad Plus even has an IPS panel. The only downside to this pretty screen is its matte coating, which made it susceptible to (admittedly bright) glare during preview events. It's not a deal-breaker, but you may have to angle the laptop away from the sun or bright light.

Powering the duo's two-monitor experience is the latest Nvidia Super mobile GPU (RTX 2070 Super or RTX 2080 Super) and an Intel 10th generation Comet Lake H-series CPU up to Core i9 10980HK with a 5.3GHz boost, but the rest are powered by Core i7 10875H.

The chassis is quite slim at 20.9 mm thick, and we were surprised that the unused area below where the ScreenPad Plus extends is not used as a large intake or exhaust port for the high-performance components inside. Still, I am sure Asus has done more than enough to cool the components.

One of the enhancements Asus offers in this generation is the Thermal Grizzly liquid metal compound on the CPU. This compound and dual n-Blade fans help reduce noise and temperature. We have yet to run any real benchmarks or play any games on this laptop, so we don't yet know how this change will affect it; Thermal Grizzly will be rolled out across Asus' 10th generation lineup, so we should soon see it on all products We expect to see it in all of our products in the near future. [However, Asus did tell us that they are not using the same Liquid Metal for the GPU. On the CPU side, however, they report a significant difference in peak heat.

Asus offers a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Thunderbolt 3 that can connect to an external G-Sync monitor and power a 90Wh battery. It can be docked at home or on the go when a simple setup is needed. It also has one HDMI 2.0b output, three Type A USB ports, and Gigabit Ethernet. two 3. A 5mm headphone jack with ESS Sabre DAC completes the setup; the total weight of the Zephyrus Duo 15 is 2.4 kg.

And perhaps to no one's surprise, the Zephyrus Duo 15's price starts at £3,000. This is a high-end desktop replacement in many ways, and features like ScreenPad Plus rarely come without adding a significant premium; it will be in stores by July 2020, and will be available for a price of £3,000, which is a good deal more than the Zephyrus Duo 15, which will be priced at £3,000.

In my opinion, there is one market where the Zephyrus Duo 15 could gain a foothold, and that is streaming. I had the same thought about the Zenbook Pro Duo with its discrete high-end graphics. Secondary monitors have become the norm for streaming setups, and there is definitely a booming market for high-end streaming setups that meet all requirements and sacrifice little in a small package. Sure, they don't have the oomph of a dual-PC setup, but they can fill a niche.
