New Commandos game in development.

New Commandos game in development.

Back in 2018, Tropico publisher Kalypso Media announced that it would revive its sneaky real-time tactics series Commandos, starting with a remaster of Commandos 2, which appeared in January, but Kalypso also promised a new title. Now, one of the publisher's internal developers, Claymore Game Studios, has announced that it has begun work on the next Commandos.

We don't even know the title yet, so it's still early days, and neither Kalypso nor Claymore have revealed much.

"I am very pleased to confirm that we have been able to get both the core team and the new office up and running within this short time frame," said studio director Jürgen Reusswig. We look forward to beginning development and offering talented people the chance to join our team in the coming months and become an integral part of the creation of an iconic strategy game."

Hopefully, the new version will be better than the remastered version. The remastered version currently has a mixed reception on Steam, thanks to the plethora of bugs that existed at the time of its release. This may have something to do with the fact that Kalypso is based in Germany, where, until recently, the presence of Nazi symbols prevented the video game from receiving a rating.

Claymore is still recruiting, so it will be some time before we hear about a release date. I still wish Mimimi Games, the developer of Shadow Tactics, had been involved with this game. The company's Japanese-made tactics game was the closest they could come to recreating the magic of Commando."
