Witchbrook's new screen gets a dramatic makeover

It's been a long time since we last heard anything about Witchbrook, the mysterious magic school RPG in the works at Chucklefish. Obviously, it never came to fruition.

Today we see a possible reason why, as Chucklefish has released three new screens showcasing a dramatically revamped visual style. Here's one of the old screens from when we interviewed the studio in 2017:

And here's the current look:

Pretty different, right? The old visual style was never ugly, but the new screen reveals an isometric perspective and looks much more detailed and intimate. There's only so much you can tell from a screenshot." The term "bullshot" exists for a reason, and the Witchbrook website says no more than that. However, this looks good.

Witchbrook, if you haven't already seen it, is a pixel-art RPG and life simulator about a magic school and the town surrounding it. As an apprentice witch, you build relationships with fellow students and townspeople, attend classes to develop your spellcasting talents, fish, grow crops, harvest mushrooms, go to prom, and solve school mysteries. No release date has been set yet, but Chucklefish says "it's still a while away."
