Roblox game about adopting a pet had more players than "Mount & Blade II: Banner Road" this week.

Roblox is a world unto itself. While we've been binge-watching "Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord" and "Doom Eternal," the cutesy pet- and family-adoption-themed Roblox game has had more concurrent users this week than those two games combined.

The game, called "Adopt Me!" had 683,404 concurrent players this week, according to creator DreamCraft. This was attributed to an April Fool's Day update. The main attractions were "free temporary pet stones" and perks such as "double pet aging" and "bucks". Also included were "increased furniture limits and backpack space" and "additional seating in some cars for pets". I'm not quite sure what any of that means, but it sure sounds cool.

According to Fandom, Adopt Me! is the spiritual successor to the earlier Roblox game with the more clunkily named Adopt And Raise A Baby!" The game features two roles: the baby and the parent who cares for the baby." Other features include obbies, pets, and customizable houses." Since first launching in 2017, the game has gradually moved away from the baby and parent scenario and foregrounded the pet aspect. Trading pets, acquiring pets: ...... Pets are everything, and a quick look at YouTube reveals plenty of hints of deals. As a result, a culture of fraud has inevitably flourished.

According to Roblox Corp, Roblox had over 100 million active users last August. Meanwhile, according to a December Venture Beat report, Adopt Me! has been played (or "visited") 3 billion times.

A little background: Mount & Blade II: Warlord's all-time player peak was 228,662 (yesterday, according to SteamDB); Doom Eternal's player peak was 104,891 just after launch, but its peak in the last 24 hours was 18, 085 players; only two obvious games are sure to break the Adopt Me! record on Steam: Counter-Strike and Dota 2.

Anyway, here's a sampling of the Adopt Me! content found on YouTube. It's pretty intense.
