Google appears to be preparing to open its stadiums to a wider audience. The company announced today that it is offering two months of Stadia Pro for free to new and existing users in 14 countries.

Stadia Pro typically costs $10 per month and currently offers access to nine games: Destiny 2: The Collection, Grid, Gylt, Metro Exodus, Steamworld Dig 2, Steamworld Quest:. Pro subscribers can also play games in 4K as long as their Internet connection supports 4K and 5.1 audio, but the free tier includes the following titles: "Grid", "Gylt", "Metro Exodus", "Steamworld Dig 2", "Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech", "Thumper", "Serious Sam Collection", "Spitlings" and "Stacks on Stacks" ("Stacks"). Pro subscribers can also play games in 4K if their Internet connection supports 4K and 5.1 audio, but the free tier is limited to 1080p and stereo audio.

Google does not specify in which countries Stadia Pro will be available, and it may not yet be available in your area, no matter where you live: the announcement says it will roll out "in the next 48 hours," but at this time (April 8, at about 1:30 p.m. EST 1:30 p.m. EST), but it has not yet been deployed.

The good news is that the "no commitment" policy is maintained: you can sign up, use the free period, and then quit. You will lose access to the free games, but you will still be able to use the games you purchased on the platform.

Google also stated that because so many more people are playing games at home, it will adopt a YouTube-like policy of reducing stadia bandwidth usage by temporarily lowering the default resolution from 4K to 1080p. Most people will not notice a "significant drop" in image quality, but if they do, they can apparently use the Stadia app to revert to 4K. He also warns that Stadia's support team is currently running at full capacity.
