Cyberpunk 2077 on Schedule for September Launch, CD Projekt Says

The coronavirus outbreak has derailed many plans: conferences have been canceled, hardware has become more scarce and expensive, and games and updates have been delayed. But one company that is staying the course, at least for now, is CD Projekt, which said in its 2019 overview released today that despite the shift to telecommuting, the planned September release date for "Cyberpunk 2077" is on target.

"There is no shortage of motivation and we have all the tools we need to facilitate remote work. We have been up and running in this mode for more than three weeks now, and to date we have confirmed that we can continue all our operations without major disruption," said Adam KiciƄski, President and CEO of the CD Projekt Group. Our plans remain unchanged and we are pushing forward with the September release of Cyberpunk."

How that optimistic outlook will hold remains to be seen. The current release date of September 17 for Cyberpunk 2077 is still far enough away to allow for an on-schedule release, but how the COVID-19 outbreak will proceed is not known at this time. If developers are forced to continue working remotely through the end of the summer, they could be forced to delay again: in March, for example, Bethesda delayed the release of the "Fallout 76 Wastelanders" update because "working from home required final testing . due to the impact on our ability to do so."

CD Projekt has a longer time frame for release, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a much larger and more complex effort.

CD Projekt also reported that 2019 was a very good year overall, with sales revenue up 44% over 2018 to PLN 521 million ($125 million) as The Witcher 3, now in its fifth year, somehow continues to kill it.

"We are very pleased with The Witcher 3's unrelenting popularity, especially considering that it will celebrate its fifth anniversary in a few weeks," said Piotr Nielubowicz, Vice President and CFO of CD Projekt. in October, The Witcher 3 will be released on Nintendo Switch and "Gwent" was released on iOS devices. The Witcher's strong sales and debut on new hardware platforms contributed to last year's net profit and group net margin, which increased to 34%."

CD Projekt's digital store, GOG, also set a new record, with sales for the year reaching PLN 162 million ($39 million).
