Call of Duty: Warzone, trio mode replaced by quad mode.

Call of Duty: Warzone, trio mode replaced by quad mode.

The third season of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" has begun with new battle paths, new heroes, and a new Quads mode in the free-to-play base game battle royale Warzone. As the name suggests, Quads divides players into teams of four instead of the previous three. This is because this new mode is not offered alongside the three-player squads, but replaces them entirely.

"Season 3 of Warzone introduced Quad, a twist on the game's standard battle royale by adding one squad member to each firepower team; the fourth squad member adds far more firepower to each team, making one-on-four situations much more than one-on-three If you don't consider it terrifying, it may not seem like a big deal," Activision explains.

"Having one more operator also makes it easier to do certain contracts, such as the scavenger contract, which allows teams to split up a bit to capture supply boxes scattered around the map.

However, the reaction on the CODWarzone subreddit was not at all enthusiastic. Multiple threads have called for Trios to be brought back, and while some degree of hyperbole is inevitable - "this must be the worst decision ever" is a bit over the top - the dissatisfaction is widespread and real. The post currently at the top of the subreddit, "Why would the developer add a new mode but remove one of the existing modes?" has now received over 10,000 upvotes.

Several Redditors have pointed out that simply adding more modes makes the game harder to fill, which is a legitimate concern: the more modes available, the more players it takes to keep playing them all. Warzone, however, looks to be a big hit, at least in the early stages. In March, Activision announced that it had reached 30 million players in just 10 days of operation.

Activision has not stated whether Quads will be a permanent addition to Warzone or a seasonal rotation, and has not answered calls for the addition of a Duos mode. We are seeking more information and will update if we receive a reply.
