Enderman doesn't mind seeing him in the Minecraft Dungeon.

There is something delightful about seeing Enderman in Minecraft Dungeons. It's like seeing a celebrity on the street, someone completely familiar, but appearing in a new context. It's a surprising little thrill. Hey, I know that guy!

I've been feeling that way a lot with Mojang's upcoming isometric co-op dungeon crawler. I recently played a few hours of the beta and found it fun and frantic, but wondered if the streamlined nature of the game would keep it interesting as long as a deep crawler like Diablo or Grim Dawn.

Yesterday, we got to see more of Minecraft Dungeons, including one that wasn't in the closed beta. Such as the tall and creepy Enderman. I wasn't playing it myself, I was chatting on Discord while watching Mojang's game director, Måns Olson, play it, but that's how game previews have to be these days.

"Enderman is an example of something we had to adapt from 'Minecraft.

"Enderman is an example of something we had to adapt from 'Minecraft,' and in the 3D space, it works very well." [However, because of the isometric view in "Minecraft Dungeons," players cannot hit the crosshairs when they want to anger Enderman. The line-of-sight aggro system does not translate well to the new perspective.

"Instead, Olson said: if you stay close to Enderman, he will get angrier and angrier over time.

If you get too close, Enderman's eyes will glow bright purple, the screen will filter out static effects as a warning, ominous sounds will emanate, and he will turn and glare angrily at the player. The closer the player gets for too long, the more hostile Enderman becomes with a screeching voice.

Although I have yet to confront Enderman myself, I feel that this translation of Enderman's extreme self-consciousness is a good adaptation of his behavior in the Minecraft sandbox. Players can decide whether to fight Enderman or keep their distance and try to avoid him.

Enderman still attacks in much the same way as in Minecraft: teleporting around and launching melee attacks with his goofy long arms. What makes him angry may have changed, but he is still the same weirdo we've known for nearly a decade.

Minecraft Dungeons was recently delayed by a month, but will still be available soon, on May 26.
