This week's free games from the Epic Game Store each put you in the role of a smart detective: the first is the BioShock-style horror game Close to the Sun, and the second is one of the best detective games on PC, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments.

Close to the Sun is a first-person mystery in which Nikola Tesla (of all people) locks you aboard his massive ship, the Helios. As Rose, an investigative reporter, you board the isolated ship in search of your sister and unwittingly become entangled in the secrets of the Helios and its inhabitants.

In the second free game, "Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment," you take on six criminal investigations as Mr. Holmes Frogwares has been making Sherlock Holmes games for years, and "Crime and Punishment" is one of their best. Although a bit rough around the edges, Andy loved its densely atmospheric crime scenes and detailed clues, giving the game an 84 in his review.

Both Close to the Sun and Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments are available for free download until April 16 at 8am PT/4pm BST. To claim both games, you must sign in to your Epic Store account and click on the respective download links.
