Rumors Development of "Resident Evil 4" remake underway

According to VGC, Capcom plans to release a remake of Resident Evil 4 in 2022 According to VGC, Capcom plans to release a remake of Resident Evil 4 in 2022.

According to VGC, development is being handled by Osaka-based M2 Studios, a Capcom-backed studio headed by former Platinum Games head Tatsuya Minami. This strategy coincides with the development of the "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil 3" remakes, which utilized a mixed team of outside Capcom studios and internal Capcom assets; according to VGC, the remakes are proceeding with the tacit approval of Shinji Mikami, the game director of the original "Resident Evil 4." Although Mikami declined to take the lead on the project, he apparently "provided informal advice."

"Resident Evil 4" was released in 2005 on the GameCube and PS2, and has since been re-released and remastered several times for the current generation consoles; a PC version was also released in 2007 and is regarded as the best game in the "Resident Evil" series and one of the most popular games of the 2000s.

Wes recently argued that "Resident Evil 4" should not be remade on the grounds that altering a masterpiece is more likely to tarnish it than improve it. For example, if he changed Leon's movements, "we would have to rethink all the environments and the behavior of the enemies. Because they were very finely tuned 15 years ago," he said.

If VGC's reports are accurate, and if Capcom intends to continue the success of the Resident Evil remake, the Resident Evil 4 remake will likely be a contentious project.
