Newegg's least expensive 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM kit is also one of the fastest.

Role
Newegg's least expensive 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM kit is also one of the fastest.

Soaring RAM prices are (for now) only a thing of the distant past, and there are a number of fast 16GB kits available for under $100 these days. Some are well under $100, like Team Group's Vulcan TUF Gaming Alliance kit, which sells for $63.99 at Newegg.

This 16GB (2x8GB) kit runs at 3200MHz and has relatively tight timings of 16-18-18-38. Timings do not play a huge role in actual performance, but it is worth noting here that this kit is one of Newegg's least expensive 16GB DDR4-3200 kits, as well as one of the fastest (if not the fastest) timing kits. Other similarly priced kits are a bit looser.

All that said, if you are primarily building a PC, this kit is a good buy. The larger question is, does RAM speed and capacity matter for gaming? The answer is yes, going from 8GB to 16GB will give you noticeable performance gains in gaming. Faster frequencies are desired, especially on AMD platforms (Intel setups do not benefit as much).

There is a certain aesthetic to this kit. If you have an Asus TUF Gaming motherboard, this kit will fit nicely into your rig. If not, it should still work fine. I don't usually put much effort into matching my component outfits, but if you do, it's worth keeping in mind.

Getting back to the selling price, Amazon's price history shows that this kit was most recently sold for $91.09 (currently out of stock). Other comparable kits are usually around $70 (by a few dollars), but the reason this kit is trading higher than usual is probably because it is a special brand.
