Facebook Announces Twitch-Style Gaming App

Facebook, everyone's favorite dystopian social network, has announced an app to compete with Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube. The app was supposed to be released later this year, but was sneakily released earlier today.

Facebook Gaming already existed in the form of a website and in the main Facebook app, but starting today it has been pushed to cell phones so that streamers can see what they are doing on a much smaller screen.

You need a Facebook account to access it, but otherwise it's standalone, so at least you can watch some streams without being forced to watch Aunt Karen post conspiracy theories again. Stop, Karen

Not only can you follow streamers and engage in heated discussions with other viewers, but you can also play Facebook's game library directly from the app. Mobile streaming is also facilitated, allowing players to show live mobile game play without any extra effort.

Currently, quite a few people are watching Age of Empires and American Truck Simulator streams, but games like Modern Warfare, GTA 5, PUBG, and Fortnite are being spotlighted instead. Thanks, Algorithm.

Facebook has stated that it does not use ads to support the app and instead gets paid by streamers, but the Play Store still states that it "contains ads."

Facebook Gaming is currently available for Android devices, with an iOS version coming soon.
