Razer Announces First 13.3" Gaming Laptop with 120Hz Display

Razer is eager to bill the Blade Stealth 13 as "the world's first gaming ultrabook," and now it can claim another first.

The bragging rights may be short-lived, but for now, Razer can brag until its face turns RGB. That's also part of what makes this latest version the most compelling yet. The other is the discrete GPU.

Discrete GPUs have not always been present in the Blade Stealth 13; the initial version launched in 2016 had integrated graphics and remained so until last year's model, when an optional upgrade, the stunning GeForce MX 150 GPU was introduced. As Gabe noted in his review of the 2019 Blade Stealth 13, the MX 150 is inferior in gaming performance. [Edit: The Blade Stealth 13's late 2019 refresh paired a GTX 1650 Max-Q with a Core i7-1065G7.]

For this year's model, the GPU was bumped up to a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti (Max-Q variant). This may not be the fastest discrete GPU option and does not have dedicated hardware for real-time ray tracing. However, it still gives Blade Stealth 13 a new level of graphics performance and is a significant upgrade over the MX150.

All previous models shipped with 60 Hz displays. With poor graphics, they didn't need much more than that; that changed with the upgrade to the GTX 1650 Ti. All in all, this is a strong collection of hardware for a machine this thin (0.6 inches) and light (3.11 pounds).

Razer also offers a refreshed laptop with a 4K display option for $1,999.99. It's touch-enabled, factory calibrated as well as a 1080p/120Hz display, with 100% coverage of the sRGB color space; it's a bit heavy at 3.26 pounds, but all other hardware is the same.

We have not yet tested the refreshed model. But on paper, it looks promising. That is, if you're willing to splurge on a slender 13.3-inch laptop compared to other form factors available for $1,799.99.

The refreshed Blade Stealth 13 is available now.
