General
Black Mesa was one of the top-selling new games on Steam in March.

It took more than a decade (actually nearly two years), but the remake of Half-Life with Source, Black Mesa, was finally completed and released this year. Despite the long wait, it was a hit. We gave it an 84/100 in our "Xen doesn't suck anymore" review and it even made the top 20 Steam releases in March.

Valve releases a top 20 new releases on Steam each month based on sales, and while they don't release actual sales numbers, there are usually enough surprise entries to make the list interesting; Black Mesa stands out on this month's list not only because of how old it is, but also because, in fact the fact that the game began as two free mod projects, Leakfree and Half-Life: two free mod projects that became one when they realized they wanted to achieve the same goal. [Some, like Halo-based Installation 01 and Duke Nukem: Next Gen, get the owner's approval in the form of a non-commercial license. They complied, and it certainly seems to have been the right decision.

Other interesting entries on the list include Borderlands 3, which made the Top 20 despite being exclusive to the Epic Games Store for six months, and Last Oasis, a charming survival MMO that suffered a "disastrous launch" but has since managed to find its footing. Doom Eternal" and "Doom: The Last Oasis". Of course, there is also Doom Eternal, Half-Life: Alyx, and the long-awaited Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord.
