Animated Series Pilot for "Hello Neighbor" a Surprising Success

The first "Hello Neighbor" game released in 2017 was a disappointment, which our reviewer described as "frustrating, buggy, and overly reliant on trial and error." It's too bad, because the premise of the game was neat: your neighbor across the street is a ridiculous weirdo, and you have to break into his house out of morbid curiosity to find out who he is.

Since the first game was released, several offshoots have been released: Hello Neighbor: Hide & Seek delved into the history of the weirdo, while Secret Neighbor was a multiplayer take on the format.

But this latest entry in the series may be the most successful. The new six-minute "Hello Neighbor" animation, designed to pique the interest of television and streaming services, was viewed nearly 11 million times on YouTube in less than a week. The video is embedded below the article.

The pilot was written by Carly Ann West, who also wrote the novelization of "Hello Neighbor". Yes, "Hello Neighbor" is also being made into a book, and in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, CEO Alex Nichiporchik said, "The 'indie publishing' business is over. It's a branded game now."
