Huge 2.0 Update for GOG Galaxy Coming Soon

I've never been averse to using various launchers and libraries, whether it be Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin, or many others, but with GOG Galaxy 2.0 in hand, I've become more discerning. It's a big change from the old client, and after a lengthy open beta, it's now available to almost anyone.

The trick with GOG Galaxy 2.0 is to centralize the game library; with 2.0, all games are in one place, so you don't have to jump around between games that are spread across multiple platforms. In addition, not only can you launch "Half-Life" from "Steam," for example, but you can also retrieve achievements and statistics, making it feel fully integrated.

This extends to the friends list as well, where all friends appear in the sidebar along with their status, regardless of where they are playing the game. One of the reasons many people dislike switching launchers is the loss of the community they have built, especially on Steam, but with GOG Galaxy 2.0 that won't be necessary.

You can also add your console library, and while you won't be able to play "Animal Crossing" directly from the launcher, you can keep track of all the games you own.

It has quickly become my favorite launcher. It's much cleaner than any other launcher I've used, and while it has a store tab, it feels like a launcher first and foremost; while "Epic" and "Steam" often feel like a big, ugly store with a library attached, "Galaxy" is the opposite. If necessary, the store can be hidden away altogether.

GOG has not announced exactly when the 2.0 update will be available. So, please stay tuned. Until then, you can download the beta version.
