Final Fantasy 12" Update Finally Removes Denuvo, Adds Console-Only Features

When Final Fantasy 12 finally arrived on PC in 2018, we rejoiced, and since then the HD remaster has also been released on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with several exclusive features added. To date, the only exclusive feature of the PC version has been the inclusion of the unpopular DRM Denuvo. With a new patch, Square Enix has quietly removed Denuvo and added features previously only available in more recent console versions.

These are minor, but great nonetheless.

The first change allows you to talk to a character named Montblanc in Rabanastre and allows you to switch between character job classes at any time, rather than a fixed one; the second allows for more flexibility in the game's gambit system, which is basically one that assigns orders to parties and automates their actions. By increasing the number of gambit sets, it will be possible to create actions specific to different situations, such as boss fights or regular random battles.

Square Enix did not announce the removal of Denuvo in the patch, but SteamDB and PC Gaming Wiki covered the change. Some players on the Steam forums also stated that important game files disappeared in the new patch. If you encounter the same problem, you can find those files on the PC Gaming Wiki.

Nexusmods has a number of Final Fantasy 12 mods, many of which adjust game balance and change character models. The new patch will likely require updating many of those mods, but if the new features (and lack of DRM) inspire you to travel Ivalice again, keep an eye on Nexus.
