General
Doom 2 cover art is hidden inside the Doom Eternal soundtrack.

Easter eggs abound in the soundtrack for Mick Gordon's 2016 "Doom" reboot. There's a creepy "Jesus loves you" backtrack, pentagrams and beast figures can be seen in spectagraphic visualizations, and as Redditor xXxSlavWatchxXx discovered, Doom Eternal's soundtrack includes an old Doom fans will be familiar with.

The song is titled "Welcome Home Great Slayer" and can be heard here! I kind of hate to ruin the magic, but there are actually multiple tutorials online (by audio technician Joshua Casper) that explain how to do this. With all due respect to Mick Gordon, it looks like a very easy task on the face of it (keep in mind that I am still a fierce Winamp user, so you might say I am lacking in audio bona fides).

If you are hesitant to take Reddit's word for it, you can easily see the image for yourself with the Sonic Visualizer playback software. I tried it and it worked: the image quality is poor, but I guess that's to be expected since this is a quick, low quality rip of a YouTube recording. Frankly, I'm happy enough with it.

This is a fun little secret that is becoming a tradition, and for me it makes the current controversy over Doom Eternal's soundtrack even sadder: when a user noticed that Doom Eternal's OST sounded a bit off, audioblogger thatACDCguy explained why.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
