Someone gave an AI 25,000 doodles of penises and then had the AI draw a penis.

In 2016, Google surprised everyone with an artificial intelligence called "Quick, Draw!" Its glaring (and perhaps intentional) omission was quickly corrected by Mozilla, which hired design firm Moniker to riff on Quick, Draw! by creating an AI that could detect if you were drawing a penis and scold you for it.

It was a funny joke at the time, highlighting the subtle ways in which big tech companies can police user behavior. However, the data used to train the AI to recognize crudely drawn male genitalia (which now contains over 25,000 noodle doodles) was made public. So, naturally, someone used those 25,000 penis drawings to teach the AI how to draw penises.

This AI is called Dick-RNN (short for recursive neural network), and it's pretty good: created by a Redditor named RichardRNN, Dick-RNN can draw dicks of all shapes and sizes, along with all sorts of fun details, like pubic hair. and all sorts of fun details like pubic hair.

Dick-RNN's GitHub page has four demos that demonstrate this AI's ability to crudely recreate male genitalia. The first demo, called the "Main Dick Demo," asks you to draw a pair of testicles first, which the AI then completes. The next two demos, Predict Multiple Dicks and Predict Single Dick, work in much the same way, but with some additional options. In the last demo, the Dick-RNN just keeps drawing dicks while the window is open.

Is this very odd for a program? Of course it is, but RichardRNN directly cites Moniker's original dick doodle shaming AI as inspiration." Penis graffiti is "a lighthearted symbol of rebellious behavior," he writes on his GitHub page, and also "I don't think our moral compass should be left in the hands of Big Technology.

If you are fluent in Javascript, you can dive into the code yourself to learn how RichardRNN built this neural network.

Best regards, Google.
