PowerColor Launches Compact Radeon RX 5600 XT for Small Gaming PCs

If you've been looking for a graphics card sized to fit in a mini-ITX case lately, you may have been frustrated with the results; don't blame PowerColor (not entirely); PowerColor has just released its second Radeon RX 5600 XT, just released.

This latest release follows the smaller Radeon RX 5700 XT, which was released last December. At the time it was reported to be Japan-only, and it appears to still be so.

In contrast, PowerColor's shortened Radeon RX 5600 XT is listed at £299.99 in Scan. Converted straight up, that's about $372 in U.S. currency; as our friends at Tom's Hardware have pointed out, subtracting VAT, the cost would be closer to $300 (which is closer to a regular 5600 XT card) if it were released in the U.S. It probably will be.

The listing does not specify dimensions. However, it would be neither larger nor longer than the ITX version of the 5700 XT, which measures 175 mm x 110 mm x 40 mm (6.89 x 4.33 x 1.57 inches). Like that model, the 5600 XT occupies two PCI Express slots.

Another notable aspect about this card is its memory. Dimensions are not specified, but according to the listing, it has 6GB of GDDR6 memory at 14Gbps.

The launch of the 5600 XT was a bit of a mess, as AMD changed the specifications at the last minute, switching from 12 Gbps to 14 Gbps memory. This left hardware partners scrambling to update their designs to validate the new memory and, where possible, issue BIOS updates for existing cards that shipped with the slower memory. Neither of these headaches apply to this card.

What other options are there? When we sorted Newegg's GPU section to show only mini ITX cards, only six models were listed. Of those, only half were shown as in stock, and all three were from marketplace sellers, and the prices were inflated. No more.

Scan has a few more options, but be sure to check the listings to make sure the card is indeed an ITX model (a search for "ITX graphics card" returned several results that were clearly not ITX). For those who may not know, mini ITX cases are even smaller than micro ATX cases. They are great if space is limited, but require more careful component selection.
