DayZ studio closes, but development continues

Bohemia Interactive has announced that the studio that supported "DayZ" has closed, and according to a statement provided to Gamesindustry.biz, the Bratislava, Slovakia-based studio had over 40 employees at the time of its closure ...

These employees were assigned to work at other Bohemia Interactive studios, and according to the company, the Slovak closure was a mutual decision of both management teams.

BohemiaInteractive was quick to assure the public that DayZ development would continue. The Slovak studio had been transitioning from a support role since early 2019, with the main development studio based in Prague, Czech Republic.

Bohemia Interactive confirmed in its January roadmap that the DayZ development team has been downsized to transition talent to the company's new in-house engine." Enfusion technology will power all of Bohemia Interactive's future titles, and to support this, some team members were fully transitioned to Enfusion last June, and DayZ's development team, consisting of veteran developers from various departments It became quite small.

"While this change has obviously affected the overall development, the team is full of passionate people who want to make DayZ the best game we can with the time and resources available. We are pleased with what we have accomplished in 2019 and very excited about 2020."

Full details of the game's 2020 roadmap can be found on the DayZ website.
