EGX: Rezzed 2020 has been canceled

EGX: Rezzed 2020, scheduled to take place July 2-4 in London, has been cancelled; after being postponed in March, organizer Reed Exhibitions has rescheduled it for this summer, which at the time seemed rather unrealistic.

"The actual and anticipated impact of the coronavirus is becoming apparent in all aspects of our lives, not only here in the UK but around the world, with many exhibitors and creators facing travel restrictions and quarantine measures," a statement from Reed Exhibitions reads. Following extensive discussions with relevant public health, local and national authorities, as well as Rezzed's partners, we have made the decision not to run this year's event."

Much of the above was still true on March 20 when it was announced that the event would take place this summer. The travel restrictions and reduction of social distance were already underway, and it was not clear when they would end.

All EGX: Rezzed tickets will be upgraded to tickets for the upcoming EGX, which will take place between September 17 and 20, but ticket holders are also entitled to a full refund. Exhibitors will also be offered the option of a full refund or rollover to the September EGX or EGX: Rezzed 2021.

Unfortunately, exhibitors may have already made travel arrangements, presentations, demos, and other investments. For example, when the GDC was cancelled, indie developers were hit hard and companies banded together to help developers in need through efforts like the GDC Relief Fund. In that case, it was unavoidable because the GDC was scheduled before most people had heard about the coronavirus. The same cannot be said here.
