Five Australians Indicted in CS:GO Match-Fixing Investigation

Five Australians have been charged as a result of a police investigation into counterstrikes: match-fixing in Global Offensive. This follows the arrest of six players in August, when they allegedly threw matches for betting winnings.

Four 20-year-olds and one 27-year-old were charged with "use of fraudulent activity information for betting purposes," according to a statement from Victoria State Police. The offense carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison in Australia; the five will be in court on September 15.

One of the suspects is also charged with engaging in "conduct that corrupts or would corrupt the wagering results of an event or event contingency" and with possession of cannabis.

The charges relate to at least five games in an unnamed CS:GO tournament after an investigation was launched following a tip-off from an Australian betting company. Last year, assistant commissioner Neil Paterson told ABC that up to A$30,000 was won through fixed bets.

ABC also reported last year that Australia's Sports Integrity Intelligence Unit was investigating links between organized crime and an unnamed Australian-based Overwatch team.
