Five months later, Google's Stadia controller is now fully functional on PCs

You no longer need a USB Type-C cable to connect a Google Stadia controller to your laptop or PC Google has announced that wireless controller functionality is now rolling out to Google Stadia users, allowing for a cable-free connection between the Stadia controller and announced that it will enable cable-free connectivity between browser-based Stadia devices.

From its launch in November until now, the Stadia controller has only supported wireless mode with Chromecast Ultra devices. This meant that desktop and laptop PCs and other compatible devices could use the browser-based version of Stadia by choosing between native input (mouse, keyboard, controller, etc.) or a wired Stadia controller.

Starting this week, however, users will be able to connect their stadia controllers to desktop and laptop devices without a USB Type-C cable.

Wireless capability on PCs was announced within the "This Week in Stadia" update.

"Starting this week, you can play wirelessly on your laptop or desktop with your Stadia controller," says the Google Stadia team. "You no longer need to physically connect the Stadia controller to your computer to play your favorite games; you can link the Stadia controller to Stadia.com through a Wi-Fi network and play without a USB-C cable connection. This is a great way to get the most out of your computer."

Reports from Reddit indicate that the move has been well received by Stadia players and is already in full swing. It also appears that wireless controller support is available through the browser functionality, even for non-supporting mobile devices.
