Logitech G305 wireless gaming mouse on sale today for $40 ($20 off)

At first glance, the Logitech G305 appears to be a fairly basic mouse. However, it has several features, including Logitech's excellent "Lightspeed" wireless technology, a 12,000 DPI Hero sensor, and a long battery life. It is also currently on sale at Logitech for $39.99.

This is $20 off the regular price, putting this rodent in affordable territory (not too expensive for a gaming mouse even at the regular price). This is also the first notable discount we have seen on the G305.

The G305 is a step up from the best budget gaming mouse, the G203 Lightsync. For the same price (at this discount), it has additional buttons, a higher DPI (12,000 versus 8,000), and wireless capabilities.

Wireless connectivity uses a 2.4GHz dongle that plugs into a PC's USB port. Logitech's Lightspeed technology is a series of optimizations across the sensor, firmware, circuitry, and antenna design that reduces latency to just 1 ms. In other words, the response time is equivalent to that of a wired mouse.

As for battery life, Logitech says the G305 can be used for up to 250 hours on a single AA battery. If that is not enough, switching to "Endurance" mode, which reduces the polling rate from 1,000 Hz (1 ms) to 125 Hz (8 ms), will provide up to nine months of use. Gaming performance (responsiveness) remains the same, but it is nice to have the option to extend battery life when not playing games.

For those willing to spend a little more, Logitech's G604, introduced a few weeks ago, is on sale again for $69.99 (a $30 savings): 15 programmable buttons, 16,000 DPI Hero sensor, same Lightspeed wireless technology, free spin or ratcheting scroll wheel.
