Tokyo Game Show canceled

Tokyo Game Show will not be held this September, organizers announced today. The 2020 event was scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27, but like E3 2020 and Gamescom, it will no longer take place due to the COVID-19 epidemic. A replacement online event has been confirmed and details will be announced shortly.

"Due to the global outbreak of the new coronavirus and the unpredictable situation in Japan, the organizers and co-organizers have made this decision after much consideration and with the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors, and related parties as the top priority," a statement from the Computer Entertainment Association," a statement from the association reads.

The Tokyo Game Show is one of the world's leading gaming industry conventions and has been held annually since 1996; in 2018 it attracted nearly 300,000 attendees to the Makuhari Messe venue.

That's not the only gaming convention canceled this week: the Paris Games Week 2020, scheduled for late October, will not take place until 2021. For more on how the pandemic has affected the gaming industry so far, see.
