In "Mount & Blade 2: Banner Road," important characters can be difficult to track down. It can take some time to make contact.

You can see it in action above. I run around, open the encyclopedia, find a listing for Laga'air, the leader of the Southern Empire, and click the "call me" button on the mod. Then I resume riding until she answers my call.

Then, just as if we were face-to-face, we can conduct diplomacy, pursue quests, and chat about whatever we like. I also call a young child who is being held captive in a castle controlled by the enemy. Hello, child! As soon as I'm done trading sheep and replenishing the soldiers I lost after getting my ass kicked by your captors, my dad will be on his way to free you.

One piece of advice. You actually picked up the medieval phone and answered your own phone.

"Yes? I don't think I know you," I said to myself, shaking my head back and forth trying to find myself in the air around me. To the soldiers it must have looked like I was talking to a tree.

"Peace to you, stranger." I looked around, trying to figure out who was talking to me. (Also, the game locked up and had to be restarted.)
